Canker Sores are little white ulcers with red borders on the inside of the mouth. They can be very painful, they last for up to two weeks.

If you have ever had one in your mouth or on your tongue, you know how painful it can be. You are not alone. About 1 in 5 people will have a reappearance of Canker Sores.

Unfortunately, the cause is unknown. It can appears at any age, but normally it is between the age of 10 and 40.

Anyone can get them, women and young children are more prone to it.

Doctors don't know the cause of canker sores. However, they have identified several factors that seems to be triggers for outbreaks:

- They may runs in the family - Genetics.

- Periods of stress.

- Eating too much of at one time.

- Poor nutrition.

- Food allergy.

- Menstrual periods - Hormone changes.

- Toothpaste or mouthwash that contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

- Mechanical trauma to oral tissue (bite).

- Infectious agents (bacterial or viral).

- Medical condition.

- Medication.
