Cavities are the results of the creation of acid from certain bacteria in the mouth. The acid softens the enamel of the teeth creating decay. Then, develop in tiny opening, or holes in the teeth.

Enamel is the hard mineral surface covering the visible part of the teeth and it can be worn away by:

- Smoking

- Drinking soda

- Sugary foods (cookies, candies, potato chips)

- Grinding

- Excessive brushing

- Not cleaning your teeth well

Causes of cavities

- What you eat

- Acids from carbohydrate, form by the mouth's bacteria

- Dental plaque comes from saliva, food particles, acids and bacteria in the mouth

- Heredity

Risk factors

- Dry mouth or reduce saliva flow (from disease)

- Smoking

- Chemotherapy or radiation

- People who have limited manual dexterity (brushing)

- People who have natural lower oral PH

Prevention

- Brushing your teeth twice a day

- Flossing once a day

- Reduce the amount and frequency of the amount of sugary food

- Use water and toothpaste containing fluoride

- Visit your Dentist twice a year

Impacted tooth happened mostly with wisdom tooth. They appears in your late teens or early twenties. You need to take them out because your gums stop growing.

Abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the base of the root of the tooth or between the gum and the tooth.

Tooth decay starts with a cavity. It is the destruction of the enamel of the tooth causing an opening for bacteria to come in and start to destroy the tooth.

Broken tooth is what happen when you chew on something hard or a trauma. It is normally uncommon.

Cracked tooth The pain comes and goes. It is very difficult to locate even with x-rays.
