Read what this lady has to say:

"Hi G J, here is my story. I am 22 years of age and already my wisdom tooth started to bother me. It hurts, I didn't know what to do! I went to my dentist and he referred me to a maxillofacial surgeon to have them remove. I was very scared. It turns out that one of my wisdom teeth was impacted and it tooks 1:15 minutes to extracted it. Luckily for me, I was sedated and didn't feel too much the pain. The recovery was a bit painful. I followed all instructions the surgeon had given me and didn't have any complications. I am glad I had a good surgeon". Jacqueline R. - N.S. Canada

A Lady, who just move in Florida, send me that comment:

"Moved to Clearwater, FL from western NY this fall. Was paying 52 dollars for a teeth cleaning from the best dentist in a small town. Dental insurance BCBS of western NY reimbursed me for 42. of cost. Just received first cleaning bill down here for 84 dollars. Just confirming what I read on your site-- Ave. dentist price for a hygienist to do a cleaning in the Tampa Bay area-- over 80? Thanks for your help."

A question from Alvin:

"My child have three sets of teeth. What is that condition?"

Answer:

Dear Alvin,

In order to give a definite answer, I would need more information. I will give a definition of that condition. Hyperdontia is the condition of having Supernumerary teeth. Teeth witch appear in addition to the normal set of teeth. It is a rare condition in individuals with no other associated diseases or syndromes. It could be due to hyperactivity of dental lamina, or it could be an hereditary factors along with some evidence of environmental factors leading to that condition.

My suggestion is to visit a good Maxillo-Facial Surgeon to remove these unnecessary teeth. I hope that will answer your question.

A lady from Indiana send that question:

"My mom have soft teeth and bone loss, so she has dentures now. Is there any way she passed that to me?"

Answer:

Dear Cianci,

Thank you for your question. I have to make clear to you that I am not qualified to give you any medical advices. I can give you my opinion based on my researches.

1- "Soft teeth" happened for different reasons. It could be about what you eat or not eat and what you drink. I could also be a condition known as "soft" teeth, a genetic pre-condition to getting more cavities. However, inherited bad teeth occur only in a very small percentage of the U. S. population. Lack of Fluor in water, sugar and soft drink are more likely to be the cause of softening the enamel of the teeth.

2- Loss bone. Could be caused by lack of calcium. Also, a study shows that drinking a lot of cola: Diet, regular or decaffeinated can actually lower bone density and put woman at increase risk of osteoporosis.

I do not know if you Mom can pass all that to you. We have to remember that what we eat and what we drink are major factors in these conditions.

I hope that will answer your questions.

Have a great day,

Thanks for your help."

Here is my answer.

Dear Jane, It is very difficult for me to give you advices. I am not a Doctor or a Health care practitioner. If I was you I will go back to your Dentist or Family Doctor and ask questions there ASAP. I am sorry for your daughter, and wish her well.

I received a question from Mary in Florida:

"Hello GJ, My husband has very bad peri gum disease. (sorry I cant spell it). Hes had a tooth fall out. He also has decay. We are not in a position to do much, but we should start. He should not have to live in pain. He seems to think that removing one or two of his teeth at a time, especially the ones that are giving him such pain, will not help at all. He thinks removing the teeth will not stop the gum disease. I think it will, once he get them all out the pockets heal and he gets false teeth. He seems fearful that its something worse than it may be. He says he has no abcess', just lose teeth and decay in some of them. Please advise if removing them as we can afford, maybe one a month could offer him some relief eventually. Would he need gum treatment as well? Thank you so much. I appreciate your time. A worried wife in Florida"

Here is my answer:

Hi Mary, Thanks for your question. The only advise I can give you is to go see a Dentist ASAP!.

I do not know your financial situation, however, I did some researches on the web and I found some places, here in Florida, where you can get treatment for low fees or for free and some places will even finance you. Here is a copy of some places and phones numbers where you can call and ask your questions.

Shanna have a question:

"I have always ground my teeth in my sleep, and this past year I have been so stressed that at some point I broke two of my molars on the bottom left side. The one all the way in the back doesn't bother me at all (I think the nerve is already dead), but the one in front of it is causing my gums to swell and I have "chipmunk cheek" on that side. I have been using mouthwash and brushing frequently (it feels REALLY good after the restoring mouthwash) and I have taken Keflex and Ibuprofen. I have also rinsed with salt water (man, did THAT hurt!). Is there anything else I can do? We have medical coverage through the state but their assigned dentist does not speak English well and is extremely rough with patients and we cannot afford to pay outright. I think it will be fine once the nerve in this tooth dies as well - the teeth are not loose at all and the gums do not bleed. I simply have too much stress in my life and I clamped down too hard and probably swallowed the pieces in my sleep. I am feeling pretty good right now with the Keflex and the Ibuprofen, and I think the swelling will go down soon. How can I prevent future swelling until I can get to a better dentist? Thank you so much for your time."

Here is my answer:

Dear Shanna,

Thank you for your question. In my opinion, you really need to see a Dentist. You are saying that you have a lot of stress in your life, and you think that it is why you are grinding your teeth. It could also be an abnormal bite or a crooked teeth that causes you to grind like that. You told me that you have also loss one tooth already. That grinding can also affect your jaw, result in hearing loss, even change the appearance of your face. It is a serious condition that should not be ignored, Please consult a Dentist ASAP. I think, if you go back to Medicare office and explain your case, they may be able to send you to another Dentist. Since I am not in the medical field, I can only suggest.

I hope that helps,

G J Letendre

A question from Miami:

"You suggest to check if a Dentist is an ADA member but most Dentists in Miami, while licensed at the Florida Dental Board are not ADA members. What does that mean?"

My answer:

Dear Sean,

If the Dentist graduate in Miami, chances are that they are probably member of the local Dental Organization or the State Dental Organization which are affiliated with ADA.

In Florida it is Florida Dental Association.

Since they are already affiliated with ADA with Florida Dental Association, being a member of ADA directly will caused them to pay an other fee.

Best regards,

G J Letendre

Khatera have a question:

"Hi my name is Khatera I am 19 years old, I have a question. I asked many dentists but nobody could help me so I think you can help me. It's been about 10 or 11 months that I feel that I have bad breath. I brush them after each meal using a good toothpaste but non of them helped me. So please if you know anything email me. Thank you."

My answer:

Dear Khatera,

Thank you for your question. You have to remember that I am not in the medical field, so I can only give you my opinion. There is many causes to bad breath. - Did you change your diet recently? - Are you taking any new prescription? - Did you start to take vitamins lately? - Are you using any drugs? - Are you doing anything new at all? - How is your digestion? - What about bowel movement? All of these items could be the cause of bad Breath. If you are very worry, consult your family doctor. He will know better than me.

Best regards,

A question from Alexis:

"Hi, I have a tooth infection on my front tooth, and it is also discolored. I took some x-rays but the dentist couldn't see real clearly. I was also referred to the endodontist, but I don't have a lot of money right now to get it treated. I do, however want to know some information. Since it can be infected (the tooth that hurts and is discolored), can the infection spread to the teeth next to the infected tooth? Will it cause problems and possible root canal procedures for the teeth surrounding or being next to the infected tooth? I'm scared that if I wait any longer, the infection will spread and I will have to do a bunch of root canals! My second concern is, if my tooth is infected, can't antibiotics take care of the infection? However, the dentist said that the discolored tooh may be already dead. Thanks!"

Here is my answer:

Hi Alexis,

Thanks for your question. I think you should know that I am not in the medical field. The only thing I can do is to give you my opinion.

Regarding your money problem, sometimes the Dentist will do some kind of financing for you that you can repay over a certain period of time. Also check with your municipal government, they may have some kind of help program regarding Dental Care if you qualified.

For your infected and discolored tooth, I do not know if the infection can spread to the next one. I do know that the infection can infiltrate your blood stream and cause all kind of problems for you.

If I were you, i will find some way to have the situation corrected ASAP.

G J Letendre
