Dental Assistant Are There to Help
Dental Assistant provide different types of patient care,
office duties, and laboratory work. They assist the Dental Operator
and generally works in the background.
The limitation of their duties is often regulated by the
local Dental Administration.
Training
Most programs take 1 year or less and leads to a Certificate
or a Diploma. A 2 years programs offered in a Community College
leads to an Associate Degree.
Without further education, advancement opportunities for Dental Assistant are limited.
Some become Office Managers, Dental Assisting Instructors,
Dental Product Sales Rep, or Insurance Claims Processors for Dental
Insurance companies. Other go back to school to become Dental
Hygienists.
What do they do?
Assistants work most of the time near the Dental Chair so they can arrange
instruments, materials, and medications and hand them to the Dental
Operator when needed. In the lab, they sterilize and clean instruments,
they make casts of the teeth and mouth for impressions.
They polish removable appliances and make temporary crowns. They also
perform office duties such as appointments, book keeping, organizes
patient files, pay and send bills and so on...
Dental Assistant must wear gloves, masks, eyewear and protective clothing to
protect themselves and their patients from infectious diseases.
These Professionals are part of the Dentistry family. All working
as a team to make your visit pleasant, effective and relatively short.
Dental Assistants have their own Board Association "DANB" Dental
Assisting National Board, which is recognized by the American
Dental Association "ADA" as the national credentialing agency for
those professionals.

are valuable members of the Dental Team. They create teeth after receiving
a mold from the patient's teeth.
