Dental Technicians Fill Prescriptions Received From The Dental Team
Dental Technicians create teeth after receiving a mold of
the patient's teeth from the Dental Operator. He uses the
mold to produce a replica of the teeth from which he constructs,
such as crowns, bridges, or false teeth.
He fills the prescription for the artificial replacement.
The training
In High school, students who are interested in becoming Medical Appliance
Technicians should takes mathematics, metal and wood shop, drafting
and sciences.
2 year programs at a Community College, Vocational School, Technical
College, University or Dental School are available.
Dental Technicians graduating of these programs receive either an Associate Degree or
a Certificate. Also available, is a 4 years Baccalaureate programs
in Dental Technology.
Their work
Dental Laboratory Technicians work with a variety of materials including
gold and other precious metals, waxes, plastics, stainless steel, a
variety of porcelains and composites or polymer glass combination in
order to custom manufacture Dental Appliances and indirect restoration
that will be an exact fit for the patient.
Dental Technology is changing rapidly, with new materials and techniques, working with these new materials are now gaining clinical acceptance.
Dental Laboratory Technicians are providers who help support the Dentist
Team to help in Dental Treatment.
Dental technicians are a part of the Dentistry family and have their own Association:
National Board of Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology (NBC).
The Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association
(ADA) is responsible for accrediting Dental Laboratory Programs.
