A Tooth Erosion Is An Acid Attack
Tooth Erosion is an irreversible loss of Dental Enamel by
chemical processes coming from acidic foods or acid reflux.
It does not involve bacterial action. Just being exposed to acid for
a long period of time leads to progressive loss of enamel.
The tooth shrinks and crumbles at the biting edge.
Risk factors for Tooth Erosion
- Drinking fizzy drinks or pop, they have high acidity
and rapidly dissolve enamel.
- Morning sickness in early pregnancy.
- Pure fruit juices are very acidic.
- Hiatus hernia.
- Chewing aspirin.
- Excessive consumption of alcohol.
- Anorexia and bulimia.
- Frequent gastric regurgitation causes tooth
destruction by stomach acids.
Dentist recommends that you wait at least 1 hour before brushing
your teeth if you have had an acidic drink or have vomited.
After acid exposure, the enamel becomes soft. Brushing will
damage the enamel and speed up the erosion process.
